Bacon? Dental Floss? Condoms? Oh my....

Last week I posted a photo of a bag of rubber band braces that a patron used a bookmark. This sparked an idea so I ran with it. I asked the question, via Twitter, what was the strangest thing you have found patrons to use for bookmarks? I got tons of responses but I couldn't believe the two most popular items! But first, here are some of the hilarious responses....

A lobster bib

$5 bill that said "do not lose"

Unopened fentanyl patch

Toilet Paper

An empty bag of sunflower seeds labeled "bookmark"

Divorce documents

A worm (little girl saw her mother put a flower between the pages of a book and wanted to try....)

Cheese

So what were the two most popular responses?

Bacon (cooked and uncooked) and condoms (used and unused).... extremely disgusting.

One librarian wrote that when the patron was asked about the uncooked bacon inside the book, their response was "I couldn't find anything else." There are some cases where dog-earring is acceptable.

In regards to the condoms, a friend who works at a college library, found the used condom. I even saw the picture, but I decided not to post it here. You are welcome.

So what is the strangest thing you have ever found?

First of all: ". . . found the used condom. I even saw the picture, but I decided not to post it here. You are welcome."

Thanks, and I mean it. :-)
